Mission Statement

SPIRITUAL MISSION

The spiritual mission of Hearts Over Latin America (H.O.L.A.) is distinctively Christian in its perspective, striving to fulfill the Great Commandment given in both the Old and New Testaments...to love God and to love our neighbors. This two-fold commandment challenges us to live out our faith in tangible ways.

Hearts Over Latin America welcomes volunteers to join us in our mission and service to others.

THE MISSION OF HEARTS OVER LATIN AMERICA (H.O.L.A.) IS TO IMPROVE THE PHYSICAL, SPIRITUAL, AND ECO-NOMIC CONDITIONS OF THE POOR IN GUATEMALA THROUGH SHORT-TERM MEDICAL, CONSTRUCTION, AND HUMANITARIAN AID TRIPS AND RELATED PROGRAMS OF EDUCATION. OUR MISSION IS BASED ON AN ECUMENICAL UNDERSTANDING THAT AS PEOPLE OF GOD WE ARE CALLED TO DEMONSTRATE THE LOVE AND COMPASSION THAT IS AN OUTWARD SIGN OF GOD’S PRESENCE AMONG US. HEARTS OVER LATIN AMERICA LIFE CHANGING MISSION TRIPS IS TO MINISTER TO THE POOR, WHILE PROVIDING A SPIRITUALLY-ENRICHING EXPERIENCE FOR OUR VOLUNTEERS

WHY DO WE GO TO GUATEMALA?

The majority of the Guatemalan population lives in extreme poverty and has little access to medical care. Over the years, Hearts over Latin America (H.O.L.A.) has developed a deep respect for the medical, clergy, and administrative staff at Escuela Integrada as they seek to meet the needs of not only their own residents but also all the poor who come to them for help. We are honored to partner with them in this mission. By returning to Guatemala each year, Hearts Over Latin America has also been able to establish a network with other nonprofit organizations in the country who share our vision of service to the poor.

By sharing ideas and resources, we are able to serve the poor more effectively and in a greater capacity.

WHILE INDIVIDUALISM IS IMPORTANT AND VALUABLE IN MANY SITUATIONS, WHILE IN GUATEMALA YOU ARE A MEMBER OF H.O.L.A. AND YOUR ACTIONS REFLECT ON THE TEAM!
